Artist Bio
Jamie Reno, who grew up in Iowa and now lives in San Diego, is an acclaimed
singer/songwriter whose warm, skillfully crafted, bittersweet music seduces
listeners with its honesty and universal themes. Shaped by an enduring love
for 70's acoustic rock as well as country and folk music, Reno's songs resonate
with both joy and melancholy.
His new release, "All-American Music," fulfills Reno's lifelong dream
of recording his own traveling songs with many of his musical heroes. A compelling
set of road tunes, it features remarkable musicianship from such music greats
as Charlie Daniels,
Dickey Betts (Allman Brothers), Jeff Skunk Baxter (Doobie Brothers/Steely Dan),
Randy Meisner (Eagles), Ricky Skaggs, Charley Pride, Jerry Donahue (hellecasters),
Suzy Bogguss, and many more.
Reno, who records for 33rd Street Records, is a lifelong musician (guitar, keyboards,
drums) and singer/performer whose national songwriting career began auspiciously
in 2000 after completing a successful treatment for lymphoma cancer. That near-death
experience, combined with the joyous birth of his daughter, inspired him to
start writing songs. Reno has since recorded four CDs, had his songs placed
on NBC and nationally syndicated TV shows and films, and won prestigious songwriting
honors nationwide including Best Song honors at last year's San Diego Songwriters
Guild Awards.
The summer of 2000 saw the national release of Reno's debut record, "My
Side of Paradise," a largely acoustic, autobiographical record and critical
and popular success that featured some of California's best studio musicians
and members of the Little River Band. It was followed in late 2001 by "Reunion,"
another successful release that affectionately addressed what it means to grow
up, and look back. In 2002, he wrote and recorded "Favorite One,"
a touching tribute to legendary ex-Beatle George Harrison that received nationwide
airplay and praise.
In addition to being an acclaimed singer-songwriter and compelling performer,
Reno is also one of the nation's most accomplished journalists. The San Diego
correspondent for Newsweek magazine, he's covered stories ranging from the California
fires, the war in Iraq, the 9/11 terrorist attack and investigation and the
Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy to Napster, Enron, the Heaven's Gate cult, the
Andrew Cunanan murders, the O.J. Simpson trials, the David Westerfield trial,
Super Bowls, youth culture and the music business.
Reno has also written for such publications as the New York Times, Rolling Stone,
Sports Illustrated, TV Guide, USA Today, Entertainment Weekly, US Weekly, Premiere,
Men's Journal, Inside Sports and the Los Angeles Times. Reno has won more than
25 Society of Professional Journalist and Press Club awards, including the Press
Club's prestigious Best of Show award in 1997, 1998, and 2002.
Reno, who was born and raised outside Des Moines, Iowa, is also an accomplished
athlete (surfing, soccer, baseball, tennis), who loves movies, reading, and
being in or anywhere near the ocean. But among all his accomplishments, he lists
husband and father as his two most important. He lives with his wife, Gabriela,
and their daughter, Mandy, in San Diego.
